Welcome to the Tsukuba Trans-Pacific Program in the University of Tsukuba!

Aims of the program

The Tsukuba Trans-Pacific Program has the purpose of fostering human capital who will contribute toward the common challenges of sustainable development and the resolution of global issues, in coordination with top universities in Latin America and the Caribbean with a long history of relations with the University of Tsukuba.

The Tsukuba Trans-Pacific Program has been part of the umbrella of the Re-Inventing Japan Projects of the University of Tsukuba for 5 years since 2017, for achieving a global education and contributing toward global peace supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT). The Tsukuba Trans-Pacific Program is currently under the total administration of the University of Tsukuba.

This program aims to create a multicultural community where the students of today learn to understand the problematic of Japan and Latin American countries and looking into the future, they can work as a link based on their knowledge of the culture on both sides of the Pacific Ocean and be part of a strong network of alumni professionals.

The Tsukuba Trans-Pacific Program aims to strengthen international student exchange with the leading universities of Latin America located in the countries of the Pacific Alliance and Brazil, as we have maintained long term academic relations. These universities are: El Colegio de México (Mexico), Universidad de Guadalajara (Mexico), University de los Andes (Colombia), Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (Peru), Universidad de Chile, and Universidade de São Paulo (Brazil).

We hope that the Trans-Pacific program as a collaborative program contributes to promote the development of shared solutions to the global problems. We hope that every year more students will be interested to get to know Japan and Latin America, and extend their knowledge about these cultures for a better understanding of our common challenges. We believe that cultural exchange enhances the new generations of citizens to be ready to face global and environmental issues based on mutual cultural understanding.

This project implements a credit transfer and academic record management systems as well as degree-awarding exchange programs – in order to have quality assured programs – for inbound and outbound exchange students of Japanese higher education institutions (and overseas partner universities as well).

Our objectives
- Give to the students, faculty members, and administrators greater chances to explore their full potential by exponentially enhancing mobility and breaking all barriers that stand between nations and institutions.
- Enable the staff and students to engage in research and education that take advantage of all resources that the global society has to offer by transcending all barriers that stand between nations and institutions.
