Admission Requirements

  1. Applicants must hold full-time student status at their home universities or colleges. (In cases where student exchange agreements are in the process of being signed, letters describing the conditions under which exchange students will be accepted must be exchanged between the applicant's home university and the University of Tsukuba.)
  2. Applicants must be recommended by home university
  3. Applicants must have excellent academic records (GPA of 2.00 or higher) and strong commitment to studying in Japan.
  4. Applicants from countries where the official language is not English are required to submit official documents of English language proficiency. In the case of TOEFL, for example, your score must be at least 550 for the paper-and-pencil test or at least 79 for the Internet-based test (iBT).

Application Procedure (ASEAN Students)

  1. Apply at Home Partner Universities
  2. Home Partner Universities will recommend students to University of Tsukuba
  3. University of Tsukuba will select students from recommended applicants
  4. Announcement of successful applicants by University of Tsukuba
  5. Processing of admission requirements between Home Partner University and University of Tsukuba
  6. Arrival of ASEAN students to University of Tsukuba

Support

  1. Waived tuition fees with partner universities
  2. Free pick-up from airport to university
  3. Free university wide internet usage
  4. Dormitory arrangement for TAG-AIMS students
  5. Buddy system
  6. JASSO Scholarship (Applicable only for students from Cambodia (RUA),  Lao P.D.R. (NUOL) and  Myanmar (Pathein University).

Application Forms

This application should include:

  1. Application Package Cover Sheet and Checklist
  2. Application for Exchange Student/Exchange Research Student at the University of Tsukuba (Form 2)
  3. A formal letter of request for admission to President of the University of Tsukuba
  4. Official transcript of academic records
  5. Application for Certificate of Eligibility *Please read the sample before filling out and sending the EXCEL file to the Division of Student Exchange (aims.tag.tsukuba@un.tsukuba.ac.jp) from each applicant's Email address.
  6. A copy of your passport, if available (copies should include ID page and pages with Japanese immigration stamps, if any)
  7. A certificate confirming the bank account balance that he/she intends to use to support his/her study. (In case of the application being a self-supporting student).
    and/or
    Supporter’s certificate of balance of bank account balance and certificate of income plus certificate of employment (In case of the applicant having a financial supporter, such as a parent or third party).
    and/or
    A document that certificate that the applicant is a recipient of a scholarship from his/her own country (if applicable)
  8. Three ID photos of different sizes
    • Two (2) pieces 40mm longx 30mm wide (One is to be attached to the application: the other is to be sent together with application materials)
