On March 29-30, 2018, the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) organized the "Oriental Studies Olympics 2018". This competition is held every year and open to students who are studying the social, historical, and cultural aspects of oriental countries (such as Turkey, India, China, Korea, and Japan) at the Oriental Studies Departments in Kazakh higher educational institutions.
Participating students took paper tests on Japanese history, society, politics, and economics, and the highest pointers among them would give presentations. Kuatova Khanymai, a sophomore at KazNU, gave a presentation on "Measures for Earthquakes in Japan" which landed her second place in this event. In addition to certificates, prizes were awarded to those students who obtained excellent scores by sponsoring colleges, companies, embassies, among others. As one of the sponsors of this event, the University of Tsukuba provided original goods to students who achieved excellent results in the Japanese division.
