The Geoenvironmental Sciences program aims at exploring the natural scientific process and the mechanism of the geoenvironmental changes from the temporal and spatial point of view, and synthetically elucidating the changing geoenvironmental conditions icluding the impact on human activities. This program involves human geography , regional geography, geomorphology, hydrological science, atmospheric science, geographical information science , terrestrial water cycle system and atmospheric-ocean interaction system.

The global environment is recognized as the common heritage of humankind and all life is dependent upon it. In the 21st century, the fate of the global environment has a critical issue in both in developed and developing countries throughout the world. To sustain the global environment, they are crucial not only to produce carbon-neutral/renewable energy resources as the countermeasures for global warming, but also to develop the effective technique and management policy for conserving the high-quality water resources. As the former target, biodiesel produced from microalgae has called forth interest of economic and scientific actors, and the appropriate management of landscapes and water purification systems are essential for the latter target. This program aims at tackling both targets parallelly and harmonizely to show the promising scenario for sustainable global and local societies.

The Program in International Public Policy consists of two fields: International Relations and Sociology. This program provides comprehensive curriculum to graduate students for their research capacity building through a professional as well as an interdisciplinary approach in each field. The objective of this program is to educate students by promoting and upgrading their research capacity to an international level and their practical knowledge for framing problems and finding solutions in the area of international public policy.

Doctoral Program in Life Sciences and Bioengineering

This program aims to conduct leading education and research in the clarification of functions in organisms and the development of their functions. Recent bioscience and biotechnology have mainly been focused on the molecular biology of genes. Based on this, we need to understand static and dynamic behavior of cells more precisely with a biochemical and molecular levels and develop the methods to utilize these functions. Moreover, we will have to develop materials related to our everyday lives that make use of the properties of biological resources. Given this situation, in order to train students to be active researchers in the fields of bioscience and biotechnology in the new era, the program is structured in a fusion of two principal major fields; Biochemistry of Cell Functions and Engineering Science of Biological Functions. Education and research guidance is carried out based on an interdisciplinary curriculum that includes biology, chemistry and engineering.

This program accepts students who have obtained a master’s degree or its equivalent in a related field. This program accepts students via general examination, cooperative graduate school examination, foreign student examination, career student examination and examination for the international collaborative program of environmental sciences and undertakes advanced professional development and education of environmental practitioners. Applicants from either humanities or the sciences may be admitted to this program, if they have the academic ability and wish to pursue environmental science which focuses on social contribution and the practical resolution of environmental problems.
