Doctoral Program in Arid Land Resources Science

We welcome international students to join this 3-years Doctoral Course aimed at solving climate changes, food, water and/or other biological resources shortage-related problems, by conducting research-oriented work in the laboratory, as well as field work on arid or semi-arid lands.

Our goal is to train competitive professionals skilled to work on a multidisciplinary and international environment. For this purpose, all the guidance is provided by an Advisory Committee composed of Professors from various research fields, related to environmental and agricultural sciences. Moreover, the classes are taught in English.

Qualifications

The University of Tsukuba seeks students who are interested in the topics of food, life science, environment and bio-resource and aim to solve current problems with specialty and a wide knowledge in arid lands resources. Special focus on the sustainable use of agro-biological resources and possess the applicable skills to analyze events from a variety of perspectives in the climate change scenarios.

Policy of Selecting Students

The University will make a comprehensive evaluation of applicants based on whether each applicant has ability of research in the advance field of agricultural sciences and the proficiency in English. Additionally, academic ability to acquire advanced knowledge and understandings of contemporary problems existing in the world will be evaluated based on the submitted documents, research presentation, and individual interview.

Curriculum

  • Field study tours for practical exposure of the students to arid and semi arid land conditions
  • Special course of Arid Land Resources Science including utilization of arid land resources, training on economics, dealing with emerging problems such as global warming etc.
  • Specialized subject selected from any of concerned divisions

Admission Information

The University of Tsukuba will process admission based on each applicant’s GPA, English proficiency, and an interview via teleconference. University of Tsukuba encourages applicants from sister universities which have MOU with Tsukuba.
