Our Integrated Environmental Science degree allows students to study a wide variety of subjects, selecting those courses which interest them the most and develop their own degree. The University of Tsukuba School of Life and Environmental Science offers a range of four-year undergraduate degree programs taught entirely in English. Graduate with a Bachelor of Bioresource Science (College of Agrobiological Resource Sciences) or a BSc / BS degree (Colleges of Biological Sciences and Geoscience).
Students require 124 credits to graduate. Credits are accumulated from a combination of taught, lecture-based courses, practical and field courses, and a final year project.
Lectures form the basis for any academic program. Lectures are 75 minutes in duration, with 2 hours of study and revision time assumed for each hour of class time. 10 lectures are equivalent to 1 credit.
As science students, practical lab-based learning is important. Students will have the opportunity throughout their degree to develop practical skills in their academic program, as well as attending a variety of domestic and international field courses.
In first year, students will take a range of basic classes, to teach fundamental knowledge and develop core competencies. These courses include basic biology, chemistry, physics, and maths.
In second and third year, students can start to take major specific courses. These courses cover a broad range of subjects within each discipline; from genetics and molecular biology, to agricultural economics, and meteorology. Transferable skills courses help develop competency in scientific writing, poster preparation, and oral presentation.
In your final year, you will join a lab of your choosing, and work on a year-long research project. You will be supervised by a specialist in the field, and have access to state-of-the-art facilities. Our labs have a strong family feel, with senior students mentoring juniors to help them with their research.
By the end of your degree, you will have a broad education, with the ability to conduct basic scientific investigations in Life and Environmental Sciences.
